5 Ways To Help You Out Of Your Fitness Rut!

Posted by Laura

Stuck in a workout rut? Don’t stress, it happens to the best of us - even the most dedicated gym bunnies! Luckily there’s loads of easy ways to help haul you out of your hiatus...

  1. Get some new gym gear It’s amazing what a new pair of trainers or running tights can do for your motivation. There’s loads of amazing patterns and styles about at the moment so step out in style! Love to update your workout wardrobe regularly? Then check out Fabletics for monthly deliveries of workout wear tailored for you!

  2. Track your progress It’s so much easier to stay on track and stay focused when you’re seeing results, so take measurements, or even better take progress pictures - we love the Healthy Selfie app. Try and stay away from the scales, but if you just can’t help yourself then limit it to once a week.

Remember that progress doesn’t have to be measured in terms of how your body is changing on the outside. Keep a note of your energy levels or how well you sleep - you’re sure to feel a difference!

  3. Focus on forming a habit They say it takes 21 days to form a habit so make a commitment to moving everyday. One trick we love is sticking a calendar on your fridge and ticking each day you do a workout - don’t break the chain! Seeing your progress there in black and white will make you think twice about skipping the gym for the sofa!

  4. Find a workout buddy The right fitness friend can completely change the way you feel about getting active. They can give you the courage to try something new and help you stay committed to your goals, all whilst having fun at the same time.

You’ll also not want to let them down, so you’ll have to make it to your fitness date! Find someone with a similar fitness ability and goals to you and look forward to a new teammate, coach and cheerleader!

  5. Mix it up Life would get pretty boring if you did the same thing day in, day out and the same thing is to be said for your workout routine! That new class you’ve always wanted to try? Now’s the time to do it. Feeling nervous? Take note of point 3! Adding in variety also can help you avoid the dreaded plateau when it comes to progress.

After 3 years of excess at uni took a serious toll on my waistline and wellbeing, I found that a love for strength training, HIIT and spin classes were key to keeping me healthy and happy. I'm at the forefront of finding out and creating awesome stuff about health, fitness and happiness and when I'm not at work I love nothing more than pizza and prosecco in the sun with friends. What motivates me? Knowing that life is short...
