5 Motivational Tips From Professional Athletes: Part 2

Posted by Laura

Motivation is essential to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle - it's the thing that keeps pushing us on even when we don't feel like it! So who better to get motivational tips from than professional athletes? In part 2 of our motivation series, GB Active speak to triple jumper Michael Puplampu to get his top tips on how to stay motivated.

Q1 – What keeps you motivated and keep giving a 100%?

Michael: What keeps me motivated is the excitement to realise my full potential and the sense of achievement and fulfilment I feel when I do.

Q2 – When you are having dinner with your friends (who are not pro athletes) how do you motivate yourself to stick to your own diet without giving into the temptations of others?

Michael: I actually prefer good home cooked meals to the taste of junk/fast food. I have a weakness for cheese but it tastes even better because I don't have it as often as I'd like!

Q3 – When you have a tough workout or drill how do you push through it?

Michael: Getting through a hard session gives you confidence. The hardest sessions prepare you for competitions. When you get on the line to compete, you remember what those tough sessions were for.

Q4 - What's the greatest thing fitness has taught you about life?

Jon: As I said above, the mind gives up before the body. I Focus on what I need to do to get better, as opposed to how fast I'm going, taking a goal from an outcome goal to a process goal.

Q5 - What inspires you to keep going when you're feeling discouraged?

Michael: Anyone who is willing to work hard and push beyond their limits to achieve something inspires me. It doesn't matter what level they are working towards. I'm a big fan of work ethic

After 3 years of excess at uni took a serious toll on my waistline and wellbeing, I found that a love for strength training, HIIT and spin classes were key to keeping me healthy and happy. I'm at the forefront of finding out and creating awesome stuff about health, fitness and happiness and when I'm not at work I love nothing more than pizza and prosecco in the sun with friends. What motivates me? Knowing that life is short...
