6 Things Happy People Do Every Morning

Posted by Laura
Think back to the last time you felt REALLY happy. Ahh feels good doesn't it? How you start your day can have a big impact on how happy you feel throughout the day, so check out 6 Things Happy People Do Every Morning.

1. Don't Hit Snooze

As tempting as it is, try not to hit the snooze button - there's a scientific reason why it's bad for your health and results in that horrible, groggy, confused feeling - not the way you want to start your day.  It's good to try and wake up at roughly the same time every day, so your body develops an internal alarm clock.

2. Get Down To Business*

Yep that's right we're suggesting that you should get some early morning, under the sheets action with your partner! The hit of endorphins and oxytocin will make you feel awesome and you'll feel emotionally connected to your other half for the rest of the day.

*We're not suggesting every morning - after all, sometimes you've just got to get up and get s**t done.

3. Workout

Now it's all good and well saying that working out makes you happy but 9 times out of 10 the problem is making time and being motivated. Research shows that variety is the secret to staying active

MoveGB is a Flexible fitness membership (a fitness passport to loads of providers) and Movers are twice as likely to be active 12 months after joining than users of just one gym or class. So if you want to be active think flexibility and variety!

4. Eat breakfast

Eating breakfast is good - so try and make time for it. It gives you energy (for the above workout that you're going to do ;) ) and will help you stay focused during the day. Also, skipping it won't help you lose weight

5. Set Clear Goals

If you're the kind of person who has to juggle a lot of tasks then it might be a good idea to write down 5 key goals for the day. At work I use Asana - it's a real lifesaver and helps you stay accountable (and there's nothing more satisfying than when you tick something off your list and a multi-coloured unicorn flies across your screen).

6. Swallow Your Frogs

No we've not gone mad - swallowing your frogs is an actual thing. Following on from point 5, when you've got your list, pick the thing you really, really don't want to do, but really, really have to do - and do it first. This way you can avoid the inevitable procrastination around it, and when it's done - spend the whole day happy in the satisfaction of knowing it's off the list! Seriously, it's the best feeling. Read more about swallowing your frogs here

So now you know the best ways to start your day, be a star and share with all your friends and family (maybe don’t share number 2 with your Mum and Dad - nobody needs to think about that!) so they too can feel happy and healthy all throughout the day.

After 3 years of excess at uni took a serious toll on my waistline and wellbeing, I found that a love for strength training, HIIT and spin classes were key to keeping me healthy and happy. I'm at the forefront of finding out and creating awesome stuff about health, fitness and happiness and when I'm not at work I love nothing more than pizza and prosecco in the sun with friends. What motivates me? Knowing that life is short...
