What are the toughest fitness classes on MoveGB?

Posted by MoveGB

We’re often asked what the toughest fitness classes are on MoveGB at socials and events where we meet up with our partners and customers, so we thought it’s high time we wrote something about it.

Lots of Movers often change up their routine and when they hit the comfort zone of an established activity mix, they look for something new to shake things up - they naturally want to try something that pushes them more.

Then you have those Movers who swim the English Channel for a warm-up and eat kettlebells for breakfast anyway; they’re always on the lookout for something that will really push their limits.

Well, we have a couple of the toughest fitness classes on MoveGB in the vault that we think are going to leave you sweaty, red-faced, and begging for the end whilst simultaneously eager for the next session. These Move instructors will always have you coming back for more, no matter how many times you cursed them silently on screen.

Instead of us picking the toughest fitness classes on MoveGB, we’ve combed through the reviews from our members. One of the awesome features about Move is that Movers leave comments and ratings about the classes they’ve attended. It’s a great way to show appreciation to our fitness providers while also letting other people know how amazing a specific class, or a specific instructor, is.

So, without further ado, here are the five toughest fitness classes on MoveGB as recommended by our Movers.

Ready, set.. SWEAT! The toughest fitness classes on MoveGB

1. Tough Enough Cross Training

Cross Training is a fantastic way to get a complete body workout. These classes are specifically designed to target every muscle in your body and make them burn like steak on the grill. These classes are inherently tough, so you know that when Move members highlight this class as being especially tough, you’re going to work hard.

Tough Enough Cross Training uses techniques taken from both CrossFit and Strongman, and utilises equipment such as sandbags, kettlebells, and battling ropes to take you out of your comfort zone and push you to the brink of what you believe you can do.

Don’t feel intimidated though. Miriam S. describes the class as “welcoming, friendly, challenging and fun.” And as the instructor says, “it’s all about providing a fun and functional class that will increase your strength, endurance, and agility.”

In preparation for this workout, whether you’re attending it at home, or in person, it would probably be a good idea to try your hand at some exercises that even the most battle-scarred trainers find hard (we would recommend paying close attention to the Dumbell Thruster, the Dumbell Lateral Lunge, and the Lateral Step-Ups with a Medicine Ball).

Alternatively, if you want to try out a class similar to this first, but maybe not so intense, why not go for a virtual CrossFit class.

2. Power Yoga

If you’ve ever taken part in a Yoga class, you know that the core strength, concentration, and stamina needed would be – at the very least – on par with any strength and conditioning class. And Power Yoga, as the name suggests, ups the ante on that.

This class not only prides itself on providing a hardcore physical challenge, but challenges your mental stamina too. What’s really cool about what the people over at Broga are doing with classes like these, is that they stack the class with various levels and options to suit your fitness goals and needs.

This doesn’t mean you get to slack off, of course, but it does mean that you don’t feel uncomfortable with what you’re required to do. As attendee Stephanee V. says, Power Yoga is a “brilliant class with strength challenges that were optional but I really enjoyed challenging myself. The time went quickly and didn’t drag at all.”

You’ll really feel the Broga burn like Sophie: “SUCH a great workout (definitely worked up a sweat) and deep stretch! My butt will definitely hurt tomorrow haha but really loved this session. 5 stars!”

3. MetaFit

MetaFit was designed by a former Marine. That’s all that needs to be said, really.

Despite this, these classes are designed to be accessible to all levels. The instructor outlines different options so that you can adapt the class to your pace. The central idea behind MetaFit is to go as hard as you can without overexerting yourself. That means you’re still getting a good sweat but you’re not going to be incapacitated for three days after the class with DOMs (unless that’s how hard you want to push it, we aren’t judging.)

Participants of this class often comment on how sweaty you are after you’re done. Perhaps that’s why you continue to burn calories up to 48 hours after the class. There is also no need to buy any fancy equipment if you’re attending the at-home version of this workout either. Every exercise can be done by simply using your bodyweight.

Awesome class! Get ready to get SWEATY!” - Jo T.

4. Virtual Insanity Fitness

If we included a class called “Tough Enough” in this blog, it’s not surprising that we have also included a class with the word “insanity” in its title. The Mover community has never stopped loving this class. As one regular says “it always gets you sweaty (in a good way!)”.

But apart from sweating profusely (in a good way) you will experience a cardio-based total body conditioning program based on the principles of MAX Interval Training.

You know how when you do the same exercises over and over again your results aren’t as dramatic as when you first started? MAX Interval Training eliminates this plateauing effect by actively pushing you to the limit no matter how many times you’ve done the same class. As you become fitter, the classes get harder, which means your results will never diminish over time.

Just listen to Irene: “Dave is a brilliant teacher, and caters for any level, and if you've never done Insanity before, TRY it! I would DEFINITELY recommend this class; it will leave you revitalised and ready to take on the world!

5. LBT with Vania

Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought to yourself, “I want to experience what it would be like to set my legs on fire?” Well, it would seem like the Movers who keep joining Vania in her LBT class have that exact thought on the regular.

I really enjoyed this class, great instructions and easy to follow. Glutes now on fire, but will do again!!” - Samantha

Unlike the other classes that we’ve mentioned so far, LBT focuses on the lower body, with the general idea of helping you burn fat and shape up using only your bodyweight. You will lunge, step and squat until your glutes are screaming for relief. Vania has created a really unique class which prioritises single-leg movements. This helps with core stabilisation and improves your balance while giving you more control over your joints.

Helen S. describes Vania as, “lovely and enthusiastic”, while Anna M. says she is, “upbeat and friendly”. So even though many of her previous attendees can barely walk after attending this class, they can’t help but feel comfortable and taken care of by such a wonderful instructor. We’re sure you’ll feel the exact same way after you attend. And don’t worry, if you do develop sore muscles, we’ve got some nifty tips on how to get rid of DOMS

In preparation for this class, it may be a good move to work on your lunging and squatting technique. Attending a Booty class may be advisable just to make sure that you’re ready for the step up into this next-level workout.

Honourable Mention: Strong Nation/HIIT

We couldn’t go without making special mention of Strong Nation.

Original music. Muscle conditioning. Cardio. Plyometric training. These are all things you’re going to experience when you attend a Strong Nation HIIT class.

This all culminates in an intense, body-fatiguing class that targets many of your essential muscles groups such as your core and lower legs. So many Movers have commented how this class is a fantastic balance between fun and hard work, that we couldn’t leave it out.
